The joint parliamentary committee on soft drinks said the committee was examining what powers it had to act against advertisements depicting certain soft drinks as safe for consumption.

"We have received complaints against such advertisements from a member though personally I have not seen it. We have to see whether we can take action and what authority we have in this regard," JPC chairman Sharad Pawar told reporters in New Delhi on Tuesday, after a marathon meeting of the committee probing pesticides residues and safety standards for soft drinks, fruit juice and other beverages.
