The basic operators on Friday welcomed the Telecom Dispute Settlement and Appellate Tribunal verdict, saying they had won as far as the limited mobility was concerned, even as the cellular operators said they had not lost out.

"There is no bar on what we have been offering (wireless in local loop services). We have won as far as the limited mobility is concerned," S C Khanna, secretary general of the Association of Basic Telecom Operators said.

Commenting on the judgement, T V Ramachandran, director general of the Cellular Operators Association of India said, "We do not feel that the judgement is against us. Even the majority judgement raises the level playing field issues. We will study the implications and give a detailed reaction."

Asked if the cellular operators would consider moving the Supreme Court on the decision, COAI's counsel, Raian Karanjawala, said, "We will consider it...but I think it is likely."

Ramachandran declined to comment on whether COAI would move the Supreme Court against the TDSAT judgement saying, "The matter will first be discussed amongst the members."

Dubbing his reaction to the judgement as "mixed", he said, "We have not lost."
