It's that time of the year when you are counting your blessings, thanking the people who made the year memorable for you.

So when American entrepreneur Sarah Michelle Gellar shared a picture of her in a lingerie with a silly joke, people didn't really take it well.

On November 19, the 41-year-old shared some photos from a 2007 professional shoot where she is wearing a lingerie and captioned it: 'I’m just going to pin these up all over my house as a reminder not to overeat on Thursday #thanksgivingprep.'

The joke about holiday binging obviously didn't hit the right notes.

'Really? A narcissistic woman like you thinking being skinny is a beauty?' user madelainestrubel wrote on her Instagram.

'I don't even find you a beautiful woman, look at yourself without make up and background lights. Why lecturing people how much amount of food they can eat on THANKSGIVING DAY? Enjoy your bony, shapeless, unhealthy body on Thanksgiving Day,' the user commented.

Obviously Sarah was not fat-shaming, she was just talking about herself. But the actor thought it would be best to apologise and try to undo any damage.

'Unfortunately my eyes are often bigger than my stomach, and I tend to eat so much I make myself sick,' Geller told CNN. 'This was a joking reminder to myself not to do that.

'I’m terribly sorry that people were offended by my attempt at humour,' she added. 'Any one that knows me, knows I would never intentionally ‘shame’ any one on any basis. I am a champion of all people.'
