Rediff reader Debmalya Mazumder recently visited the Hanseshwari temple in Hooghly. Take a look at his stunning pictures!

On October 20, 2019, we visited the Hanseshwari (or Hangseshwari) Temple of Goddess Hanseshwari in the town of Bansberia in Hooghly district. Bansberia is approximately 60 km away from Kolkata.

The short trip turned out to be quite exciting.

The temple, built some time in the beginning of the 19th century is an important part of history and built during Raja Nrisingha Deb Roy Mahasay's rule.

The deity worshipped here is a form of 'Maa Kali'

The structure of the temple demonstrates a wonderful sense of architecture and design.

The temple has been marked as a heritage site by the Archaeological survey of India.
