Here Sudhir Mohan takes us back to the 70s when the food served in the Indian Railways was 'top class'. You can share your experience too!
Sudhir Mohan, 64, revisits the train journey he took during the early 70s.
He says: "I remember the breakfast served in the first class of Frontier Mail between Delhi and Bombay in the early seventies.
"For non vegetarians the choice used to be two boiled eggs on toast with butter or omelette with toast, butter and jam.
"Needless to say the omelette used to be Indianised version but I can say that I have never tasted such omelette anywhere else.
"Further, the toasts used to be just the right golden coloured and now I wonder how they toasted them because I doubt they had the electric toasters and anyway how would they work in trains?
"The tray used to be complemented with a pot of green label tea with milk and sugar in separate pots. The tea pot used to be covered with a tea cosy.
"For vegetarians, the meals were toast and cutlets which were not oily at all with a few finger chips to accompany.
"Compared to the rotten food served in trains even in Rajdhani, that meal was 5 star."
