Jab We Met: 'I was in love with someone else'

March 07, 2016 12:01 IST

We'd asked you, dear readers to share your love stories with us.

Sameer Kulkarni tells us how the girl he never wanted to marry became his wife.

Ours is not just a story, it's indeed a reality.

I never planned for an arranged marriage, as I was in love with someone (else).

I had discussed with my mother about the girl I loved and whom I wished to marry.

My parents introduced me to Deepti (my wife now).

This was the first time I was meeting a girl for marriage... but I wasn't ready for it at all.

Our introduction was in a proper traditional Maharashtrian way.

I had my mind fixed that I wouldn't marry this lady.

Deepti was an acquaintance of my cousin. So I took his permission to meet and tell her that I was not in the position to marry her and also that I loved someone else.

My cousin and his wife assisted so that I could discuss this with Deepti.

I told her everything, but she said that, she liked me and wanted to marry me. I didn't have any words.

I told my parents that I didn't like her.

My parents told, "We had introduced her to you stating that you need to marry her and that's final."

I was running out of my mind. I was speechless.

I even quit having food for a week.

But my parents were stern on their decision.

I was even hospitalised, but nothing worked out.

I even asked the girl whom I loved to elope with me, but she denied.

At last I had to marry Deepti.

We got married on April 21, 2007, one of the auspicious day in our lives; actors Abhishek and Aishwarya got married a day before us (on April 20, 2007).

There were many ups and downs within one year of our marriage.

I had even thought of filing for divorce.

But thanks to God, he didn't let me do this.

We were blessed with an angel Manasi on January 24, 2008.

Slowly things started improving.

And everything got sorted and finally we both are happy.

Now the situation is totally opposite. I can't live without her.

I'm really lucky to have Deepti in my life. Now she means the world to me.

Due to my transferrable job, I'm working in Bangalore and she's in Pune.

But we don't feel that we are far away.

With my parents' blessing and by God's grace, the life that I am living now is far better than what I had expected.

We were blessed with a baby boy on June 2, 2013.

I would want my wife to know that her love towards me is more precious than anything in this world.
