Andrologist and microsurgeon Dr Sudhakar Krishnamurti will be responding to rediff readers' sexual queries on a regular basis.
We invited Get Ahead readers to mail in their questions. Here is the next set of responses:
Hi,
This is Ashish from Mumbai -- I want to know about circumcision in adults. What is the process and how long does it take? What is the cost incurred in India? Is there any alternative to circumcision? How long does it take for a person to get back to normal and to work after circumcision? What are its advantages and disadvantages?
Regards,We generally perform adult circumcisions under local anesthesia as day care cases. At Andromeda (www.andromedaandrologycenter.com), the patient comes in (previously investigated) and leaves the hospital in 2-4 hours. We use a special technique. Costs for a circumcision operation will vary from center to center.
There are no real alternatives to circumcision, though many are claimed. It all depends on what the circumcision is being performed for in the first place. Patients vary in their recovery time. Many of our patients go straight to office, or travel back to their cities, directly from the operation theatre. Advantages of a circumcision are improved hygiene and protection/ reduced susceptibility to many infections, especially sexually transmitted ones etc.
Dear Doctor,
How many times in a day/ week can a healthy person aged around 40 participate in love-making with his wife?
And is it advisable to have daily or weekly?
Thanks
You may have sex several times a day or much less frequently than that. It all depends on what is mutually agreeable to wife and husband. There are no rules. Nobody becomes 'weak' because of 'too much sex'.
Hello Dr Sudhakar Krishnamurti,
Today I saw a column on rediff that you will be responding to the sexual queries of readers.
I am a 42-year-old man. Regarding sex, we have no problem, but during sex, two-three times a watery substance is emitted (large quantity -- 150-200 ml approximately or maybe less, but we can see the wet bed sheet and cushions also) from the vagina of my wife.
This phenomenon I have experienced since the last four years. In this regard, I would like to know if it's anything abnormal or everything is okay?
Mashook Ali,
New Delhi
This is definitely abnormal and your wife must see a urogynecologist (first) immediately. She is probably incontinent (without control) of urine. Does this happen even when she empties her bladder just before sex?
There are some other causes too. She needs to be checked out as soon as possible.
Dear Sir,
I am 42 and my wife is 39. We both are enjoying sexual life very well. Our frequency of intercourse is once in 3-4 days. Sometimes if she demands daily or 2-3 times in a day, I feel problem of hardness of penis. She gets upset in that case. Sometime I get a problem of looseness in penis during intercourse; initially it is very hard but after some time it gets loose, in that case also she gets upset.
I do tours frequently and whenever I am away from my wife I am used to masturbating daily, do you think it is the reason for the above problem?
I have one more problem of late ejuculation. Sometime we both get tired but I don't ejuculae and in this case she gets very upset. I always use a condom.
Please advice me and tell me how can I satisfy my partner as and when she desires.
Please withhold my name, please reply as soon as possible.
Thanks and regards,
JN Shah*
It is quite clear that you need to acquire certain sexual skills. If the wife is satisfied to the point of orgasm even once with a good quality erection and skilled love-making, she may not want to make love so frequently. The need for this arises because, after the initial sexual arousal and congestion, she does not obtain release (climax, orgasm), because each time is so ineffective.
Read Chapter 27, The Umpteenth Time in my book, Sexx is Not a Four-Letter Word (www.sinaflw.com). It deals with exactly such cases as yours and can be easily purchased online through rediff Books.
It has been recently nominated for the STTAR Award, USA, 2009-10, for the best book on sexual health education for the general public. You may find it useful to read it.
Masturbation is NOT a cause. You probably also have erectile dysfunction (www.andrology.com/erectiledysfunction.htm). This must be checked out.
