It's a twin of Samsung Galaxy J6, launched only a couple of months ago, says Ashish Narsale.

If we look at the specifications and the look of the phone, the Galaxy On6 and the J6 are very similar.

While Samsung Galaxy On6 is being sold exclusively on Flipkart on July 5, the J6 is available online as well at retail stores.

It seems like the On series phones are built to be sold online only.

The Samsung Galaxy On6 is priced at ₹14,490 with a 4 GB RAM/64 GB ROM, whereas the J6 is available in two variants which can be bought online and offline at ₹13,990 for 3 GB RAM/ 32 GB ROM and Rs 16,490 for the 4 GB RAM/ 64 GB ROM variant respectively.

That makes the Samsung Galaxy On6 a good deal compared to the J6 if you buy it online.

In this preview, we are comparing the On6 with the hot-selling Note 5 Pro from Xiaomi, as both come at almost the same price.

The Samsung Galaxy On6 fronts a 5.6 inch sAMOLED full screen infinity display, where the ‘s' stands for super, placed edge-to-edge in a 5.88 inch tall body.

But, mind you, the infinity display on the On6 comes with prominent bezel, unlike flagship Samsung phones.

The display has aspect ratio of 18.5:9 with a resolution of 1480 x 720 pixels.

If the display resolution is compared to On6's counterparts like Xiaomi Note 5 Pro, then the Note Pro 5's display offers Full HD resolution (2160 x 1080) at almost the same price, even as the On6's sAMOLED display produces vibrant colour output with darker blacks.

The phone runs on Samsung's proprietary Exynos 7870 1.6 GHz Octa-core processor, backed by 4 GB RAM and 64 GB ROM for storage.

The Qualcomm's Snapdragon 636 on Xiaomi Note 5 Pro, though, is marginally superior to the Exynos 7870.

The storage capacity the On6 comes with a dedicated memory card slot, while the Note 5 Pro uses a hybrid slot.

For the camera, Samsung decided to have a single camera at the rear as compared to dual camera setup on Xiaomi's Redmi Note 5 Pro.

When we had checked Samsung Galaxy J6 camera, which sports a 13 MP, f/1.9 aperture lens similar to the one found on the Galaxy On6, it produced a natural bokeh for close-up photos with f/1.9 wide aperture.

This dual camera, which creates bokeh effect with the help of its dual lenses and software in patriot mode, will be missed on the Galaxy On6.

The On6's front camera relies on its 8 MP f/1.8 lens with the support for flash to take selfies in the dark.

In addition, it supports face unlock for security other than the fingerprint sensor at the rear.

Again Samsung tries to sell its phones by adding camera features such as Live Stickers, Stamps, Filters and the possibility to chat while watching video.

The battery capacity at 3000 mAh and absence of fast charging capability gives one a dull feeling especially when the On6 is touted as a multimedia smart phone.

One can say that while Samsung relies on quality and branding to sell its phones, its Chinese competitors bank on offering flagship features at pocket-friendly prices.

To conclude, on first impression, the Samsung Galaxy On6 fails to impress with dull features at ₹14,490.
