Nirvana at Yogi Tree

June 15, 2009 17:54 IST

At the end of a lane with several small shops selling jewellery and touristy knick-knacks in Pune's Koregaon Park is a quiet spot that serves excellent wholesome food.

The Yogi Tree Café is a quiet vegetarian eatery enclosed in the ground floor of a hotel. Its few tables frequented by those looking for a nutritious, healthy and interesting fare.

The atmosphere is laid back, this is no place for those who want a quick bite on the run. Here you can chat in a relaxed environment under fans, while the trees outside lend a natural coolness to the cafe.

This is a no frills place, but one with enough character of its own to make you want to come back for more. It has an interesting menu with the waiter asking you if you would like your food mild or spicy.

Allow yourself 30-45 minutes for the food to be served and sample from the Yogi specials like Pakchoy and mixed greens with brown rice. The Adraki Bhaji with hot Phulkas is also flavoursome and makes for a sumptuous meal. Try the herbal mint lemon drink, the iced ginger tea or the pink ginger lemon drink, both are extremely refreshing and a welcome change from the regular thirst quenchers.

The café also has a variety of breakfast options - muesli, different forms of eggs, pancakes - and a large selection of teas and natural drinks. Eggs with toast are priced between Rs 50 to 95, pancakes between Rs 40 to 85.

It is open from 8 am to 10 pm and is one of the city's eating gems.

Approximate cost: Two dishes with two drinks -- Rs 375
