Father's Day Special: 'He was hardworking and sincere'

Rediff reader Balasubramani V, 50 from Delhi writes about his father.

I don't remember my father giving me any specific advice but I have grown up seeing him practise many deeds that have influenced me.

He is 78 now and I am blessed to be with him.

I have never seen him get late to reach anywhere. He has always been so punctual.

He lives in the same universe as we all do but I still wonder how traffic delays never affect him.

When I was 10, I have seen him travel to office in a bicycle riding almost 60 km daily.

I can’t think of doing even 10 per cent of what he did.

I haven't seen a better example of a hardworking, sincere person who also owns his responsibilities.

My father was the sole bread winner in our family of four.

At times he has had to borrow money to meet household expenses but he's never defaulted on paying it back. He demonstrated high level of commitment and honesty in his life.

My father is a normal human being and has his deficiencies, but I have never seen him spending money on himself. Whatever he did it was for our family.

Having watched him all these years, some of his virtues are seeped into me as well.

Looking back, he wasn't a successful man financially.

He was very mediocre professionally, always god fearing.

He may not have achieved professional success, but in his life, he probably achieved a greater sense of self satisfaction.
