Japan and South Korea did it. Now Malaysia may do it too.
Those under the age of 17 may find their access to the Internet curtailed between midnight and 6 am.
Malaysia's deputy health minister Dr Lee Boon Chye hopes this initiative would help curb teen addiction to online gaming and social media.
'There are gaming providers which prevent users under 17 from accessing their games for a period of one to two hours. These are among the steps being studied to ensure that video game addition can be brought under control,' he added.
According to a 2018 study conducted by All India Institute of Medical Science and the Maulana Azad Medical College, 56 per cent of the participants (school and college students and young professionals) had at least one addiction such as gaming, internet use or social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc).
