It's been a tough few months for Deepika Padukone.

The actress, who plays queen Padmaavati in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's controversial Padmaavat, has not only seen her film stalled, but has also been threatened with grievous physical harm by the right-wing Karni Sena.

However, Padukone handled the lows of the Padmaavat controversy with just as much elegance as she had handled the highs of a Hollywood release -- xXx: Return of Xander Cage -- before that.

When it comes to her struggles -- professional or personal (like her battle with depression) -- Padukone relies on honest relationships to see her through them.

Sharing advice she received from her father, Padukone once instagrammed, 'The things that really matter in life are relationships, honesty, respect for your parents and elders. Material success is important, not fundamental to happiness and peace of mind...

'There is no substitute for perseverance, hardwork, determination and passion for what you choose to do. If you love what you do, nothing else matters -- neither awards nor compensation, not even the gratification of seeing your face in newspapers or television.'
