reader RP Prajapat, 42, from Jaipur tells us how he lost 15 kg in six months.

I work in Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) as sub-divisional engineer (SDE) in Jaipur, Rajasthan). Since mine is a desk job, I spend most of the time sitting in office.

Six months ago, my weight was 88 kg.

I faced sleeplessness, felt lazy and suffered from back pain.

When my doctor suggested that I should reduce weight, I took it up as a challenge.

I joined a nearby gym to have a disciplined routine.

I lost 15 kilos over a period of six months. I am 73 kg now.

Diet

I start my day with a glass of lukewarm or light hot water with honey and cinnamon, sometimes also with lemon. This gave me tremendous results.

For breakfast, I usually go for a fibrous meal, which makes me feel full for a longer period of time. Also it (fibre) is essential for the digestive system.

I prefer assorted fruits with honey and granola, along with some greek yogurt. I alternate with plain cornflakes with fruits and some tea.

For lunch, I have chapattis and vegetables along with a bowl of curd.

In the evening, I take some tea with biscuits or some casual assorted nuts.

Dinner is usually light. I have one or two bowls of vegetables along with some fruits. Before going to sleep, I have one cup of green tea with lemon and honey.

Work out

First, warm up.

I start with 100 light jumps followed by jogging and cycling.

Twisters and cardio have been important for my weight loss. They are also my favourite.

Once a week, I go swimming.

I work out for at least an hour and half to two hours.

I also do planks and some push ups.

Motivation

(Actor) Tiger Shroff is my inspiration. Fitting into old clothes also inspires me to stay fit.

Lessons learned

It is rightly said that your body is your temple.

I am understanding it now, at the age of 42.

Tips for readers

I prefer working out in the evening.

It gives me a psychological advantage to follow my diet after a heavy workout. Whatever diet you follow, do not have anything heavy for dinner.

I followed a simple rule in the gym: Don’t follow any rule.

Do whatever makes your body flexible and lighter. Don't overdo and get yourself injured.

Follow the basic principles of dieting and working out. Simple!
