For the first time ever, Sports Illustrated's swimsuit edition featured a model wearing a burkini.

Meet Somali-American supermodel Halima Aden, who features in the swimsuit issue of Sports Illustrated.

She is the first model to wear a hijab and a burkini in the issue. 

Back in 2016, she was the first Miss Minnesota USA contestant to wear a hijab.

'Don't change yourself. Change the GAME!! Ladies anything is possible!!!' wrote Halima as she unveiled the cover.

'Being in Sports Illustrated is so much bigger than me,' she added.

'It is sending a message to my community and the world that women of all different backgrounds, looks, upbringings... can stand together and be celebrated.

'Thank you so much @si_swimsuit and the entire team for giving me this incredible opportunity.'
