India at New York Fashion Week

September 18, 2014

Since we cannot get enough of desis in the Big Apple :-)

India made its presence felt at the recently-concluded New York Fashion Week.

There was Padma Lakshmi, of course, who looked a million bucks at the J Mendel show.

And totally knocked our socks off in this sexy jumpsuit at Naeem Khan’s showing too!

Here she is with American actress Jamie Chung and Mumbai-born Khan.

Naeem Khan's line featured stunning designs in shiny metallic shades.

Khan also experimented with colours and patterns -- ranging from geometric to floral.

Jumpsuits have been all the rage but this one on the right took our breath away.

Also showing at New York Fashion Week were designer duo Falguni and Shane Peacock.

They stuck to their trademark edgy designs much like these.

The designers stuck largely to shades of blacks (and some whites)

While most of their silhouettes were western, this one seemed more India-inspired.

And here are the designers at the end of the show soaking in a well-deserved applause! :-)

For his latest collection, India-born Bibhu Mohapatra turned to Nancy Cunard, the political activist of the early 20th century for inspiration.

However, instead of recreating the costumes of the '20s (the era she lived in), Bibhu attempted to reflect her independent spirit.

The line featured daywear dresses as well as separates and gowns such as this one.

Also featured were fitted shift dresses made of a handwoven leather and silk cloth.
