If we consider the design, the Nokia X5 topples all its competitors at this price range but the hardware specs are a concern, says Ashish Narsale.

A couple of months ago, Nokia had launched its budget phone, Nokia X6, its first model to feature 'the notch'.

Now, it brings the notch design to the Nokia X5 too.

Design

The phone, which is 5.88 inch tall, 2.83 inch wide and 0.31 inch thick, has a polycarbonate frame sandwiched between glasses on both sides.

The fingerprint scanner is placed on the rear, at the centre, below the dual camera setup.

The Nokia X5 will be available in three colours -- night black, glacier white and Baltic blue sea.

Display

The phone's body holds a 5.86 inch display with a resolution of HD+ (1520 x 720).

It boasts of a modern aspect ratio of 19:9, with a thin bezel at the top and just a notch to hold the front camera, the earpiece and the sensor.

The bottom bezel is little thicker with respect to the top bezel.

Hardware

The phone runs on MediaTek helio P60, an octa-core, 64bit processor embedded with AI Processing Unit (Mobile APU) which supports Artificial Intelligence capabilities.

The processor is clocked up to 2 GHz. It is embedded with Mali G72 GPU to drive graphics intense multimedia and gaming.

To support the processor, the phone will be available in two variants -- 4 GB RAM/64 GB ROM and 3 GB RAM/32 GB ROM.

The phone also sports a micro SD slot to install a memory card, having a capacity up to 256 GB.

Camera

The phone has the modern dual camera setup in the rear; the primary one is a 13 MP camera with f/2.0 aperture with Phase Detection Auto Focus and the second is 5MP for depth sensing in order to produce portrait photos with background blur effect (the bokeh effect).

The front camera is 8 MP with f/2.2 wide assisted with AI for background blur effect in portrait mode or selfies.

Sound

Nokia keeps the 3.5mm audio jack for audio listening through your favourite headsets.

And FM radio is inbuilt, an option most phone manufacturers are skipping nowadays.

Battery

The phone is powered by a built-in 3060 mAh battery.

Software

It comes with Android Oreo out of the box.

The Nokia X5, which has been launched in China, is priced at Yuan 999 (₹10,195 approximately) for 3/32 GB and Yuan 1,399 (₹14,275) for 4/64 GB variant.

If we consider the design, the Nokia X5 topples all its competitors at this price range but the hardware specs are a concern. It is yet too early to predict how well the phone will perform.
