HMD Global has announced its latest phone in India -- the entry-level budget phone Nokia 2. With this launch, Nokia will further claw back the space it had lost to competition.
The USP of the phone is its long battery life -- the company claims it will last for two days in one charge.
If you compare the Nokia 2 with other brands you may find it expensive, but the phone boasts a few features that justify the price. Not to forget, Nokia is known for its technology and premium build quality.
Let us run through the specs...
Highlights:
Long battery life, 4100 mAh
Unlimited Google cloud storage for photos and videos
Corning Gorilla Glass 3
IP52 drip protection
Exterior
The phone seems to be well built with a metal aluminum frame sandwiched between polycarbonate back and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 in the front protecting the display screen.
Nokia is liberal in providing a 5-inch HD LCD screen with display resolution at 1208 X 720.
Innards
The Nokia 2 runs on Snapdragon 212 SOC.
But it is found wanting when it comes to processing power and memory. Nokia gives you only 8 GB storage and 1 GB RAM, which is quite meagre by today's standards.
However -- along with the unlimited cloud storage on Google for photos and videos -- the Nokia 2 also provide a dedicated slot for a memory card.
Camera
The Nokia 2 has an 8 MP rear shooter with auto focus and flash and a 5 MP front camera; the camera quality is yet to be seen.
Sound
For music lovers the phone has single loud speaker and 3.5mm audio jack.
It also has FM radio.
Battery
The highlight of the phone is its 4100 mAh battery, which the company claims can last for two days.
But I wonder how much time it would take to charge it fully as Nokia has not yet specified the charging time. However, if you go by the Snapdragon 212 specification from the Qualcomm website, it shows that the processor supports 2.0 quick charging.
Operating system
On the Nokia 2 you can enjoy pure Google Android experience as this phone comes with Android Nougat 7.1.1 out of the box and assurance of monthly updates of security and features.
It also comes with the latest Google assistant.
