Huawei unveiled its entry-level phone Honor 7X in London yesterday. It will be sold exclusively on Amazon India starting tomorrow.
The phone, which was announced in China November 28, however seems to be only a minor upgrade of its earlier avatar -- the Honor 6X.
Design
The Honor 7X is a little taller (6.6-inch) and leaner (2.96-inch).
It adapts to the modern 18:9 display aspect ratio -- or 'full screen' display design -- with screen to body ratio of 77 per cent.
The finger print scanner is positioned on the rear metal back.
Hardware
The Honor 7X runs on its own custom-made octa-core Kirin 659 processor, with its clock speed just a notch higher than Kirin 655, which is found in the 6X.
The ARM Mali-T830 MP2 GPU remains the same.
Honor 7X comes in two variants: 4GB RAM+32GB ROM; and 4GB RAM+64GB ROM. It supports MicroSD card up to 256 GB.
Sadly, Huawei has not given it a USB Type-C connector, but has made space for the 3.5mm headphone jack.
Camera
The 7X has a basic dual camera setup, which bumps up to 16MP+2MP vs the 12MP+2MP found on the 6X.
The camera has phase detection auto focus (PDAF) for faster focus.
The camera supports portrait mode, but it will be interesting to see how it isolates the background from the subject.
The front shooter at 8MP, supports portrait mode and gesture control.
Battery
The battery remains the same as that of the 6X at 3340 mAh, and there is no mention of fast charging.
Others features
The phone supports Wi-FiBridge, which lets you use your phone as a Wi-Fi router and connect with up to four devices and to share the Wi-Fi.
It supports split screen, allowing you to use two apps simultaneously.
It comes with EMUI 5.1 running on Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box; you will have to wait for the latest Android OREO 8.1.
Conclusion
Other than the display, the phone doesn't show any modern features, and there are several better options around. Xiaomi's Mi A1 and Motorola's Moto G5S Plus provide better features despite being older now.
