Ashish Narsale/Rediff.com takes a look at OnePlus's latest offering.
Chinese phonemaker OnePlus, known for its flagship phones, has ventured into television territory with its new 55” line -- the OnePlus TV 55 Q1 Pro and the OnePlus TV 55 Q1 -- priced at Rs 99,900 and Rs 69,900 respectively.
In comparison to the competition, both models are well priced with respect to the features on offer.
Find out more about the OnePlus TV in the video below.
Let's find out what these two televisions pack inside.
Sound
It may sound weird to talk about the sound aspect first but we are doing that because it's the sound that differentiates the two models.
Both boast of the Dolby Atmos sound technology to produce virtual surround sound and have 50w sound output.
The OnePlus TV 55 Q1 Pro, which costs Rs 30,000 more than the 55 Q1 variant, has an inbuilt soundbar that slides out from the bottom of the television when powered on.
The Soundbar has six forward firing speakers and two backward firing speakers, whereas the TV 55 Q1 has just four speakers with no sliding soundbar.
Display
The OnePlus TV has a 55” Quantum Dot LED, 4K display panel with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels.
The QLED uses the same concept as LED televisions in which the LED is the light source to backlight the LCD screen; here, though, there is the addition of a quantum dot filter layer consisting of photo-emissive nanocrystals sandwiched between the LED and the LCD layers.
These nanocrystals produce monochromatic red, green and blue lights when light is emitted by LED layer behind it; the result is a brighter display and a wider colour gamut.
The picture reproduction is powered by OnePlus‘s Gamma Color Magic chip.
The QLED panels are brighter than the LED and OLED panels; thus, you can enjoy watching it even in well-lit environments.
It supports Dolby vision, HDR 10 and HRD 10+ for a cinematic viewing experience; using this technology, it generates brighter colours and better blacks and whites.
To experience Dolby vision, HDR 10 and HRD 10+, the content streamed should be certified with the respective technology.
Design
With a 95.7 per cent screen to body ratio, the screen is almost bezel-less.
The display panel for the Pro variant is 0.26” thin, except for the bottom area where the sliding soundbar resides.
The media ports behind are hidden under a magnetic plate.
The television can be wall mounted or rested on the OnePlus dock.
The dock is bundled in the box for the Pro version but, for the Oneplus TV 55 Q1, you need to buy it separately for Rs 2,990.
Remote
The minimalistic remote is different from conventional television remotes.
It has a slim, aluminium uni-body design and a rechargeable battery which can be recharged via a Type-C charging port.
There is a d-pad for content navigation, along with dedicated buttons for Amazon Prime Video and Google voice assistant.
The volume control is placed on the right, just like on a mobile phone.
Other features
The television runs on Google Android TV and has its own pre-installed application, OxygenPlay, which merges all the content from its streaming partners in one interface.
It can also be controlled via your mobile, using the OnePlus Connect app, which can be downloaded from the App store.
Verdict
Features like Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos are found on premium television sets only.
If you desire the latest features -- like great picture quality and sound -- at a competitive price, then you can definitely consider the OnePlus TV 55 Q1 Pro and TV 55 Q1.
