S Jasmine of Tirunelveli bagged the state first rank in the SSLC Class X examinations, results of which were declared today, even as girls continued to outshine boys in overall performance.
The overall pass percentage also increased marginally, from 81.6 per cent last year to 82.5 percent in 2010.
However there was a dip in number of students scoring centum in both Mathematics and Science.
Jasmine, a student of MPL Girls Higher Secondary School, Tirunelveli scored 495 marks out of 500. KK Nivedha (Gudalur), R Shiva Preeya (Karur), D Thamizharasan (Puducherry) and M Priyanka (Chengalpet) came second with 494 marks. Ten students came third with 493 marks.
Girls continued to outshine boys with 85.5 per cent of them passing in the exam held in March while only 79.4 per cent of boys managed to clear the exams.
The number of students scoring centum in Maths and Science from 5512 to 2399 (Maths) and 1541 to 1310 (Science).
However more students scored centum in Social science, registering an increase from 368 to 467.
Similar trends of girls outshining boys was also noticed in Matriculation, Anglo-Indian and OSLC streams.
Rene Angel S of St Francis Girls Higher Secondary School, Coimbatore, Namrita J of Stanes HSS, Coimbatore (Anglo Indian) were among the toppers in the other boards.
