In spite of tremors in the global market, offers for the final placement of the Post-Graduate Programme for Executives for Visionary Leadership in Manufacturing (PGPEX-VLM) course at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM-C) have recorded a jump of 56 per cent in average annual salaries.
The increase in CTC (cost to company) is on the average salary of the batch prior to joining the course, which stood at Rs 8 lakh. The final placements, however, saw the average CTC rise to Rs 12.5 lakh, while the highest salary offered was Rs 16.5 lakh.
The composition of the batch consists 30 students, of which four are sponsored from the manufacturing industry. The course has registered 100-per cent placement, with a total of 35 offers being registered. Prominent recruiters include Wipro, Tata Cummins, ITC, Voltas, Tata Consultancy Services, Vedanta, HP and McNally Bharat.
"Admission offers were affected due to the economic recession. The fact that many of the students have found placements within the mainstream manufacturing sector is a heartening sign, substantiating the significance of the programme in terms of intellectual asset creation within the sector," PGPEX-VLM chairman M N Pal said.
The programme is aimed at developing next-generation leaders in manufacturing through a structured one-year academic course, which targets first-class graduate engineers with a minimum five years of experience in the sector.
The curriculum has been jointly designed by IIM-C, IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency and support from the Confederation of Indian Industry.
