Rediff reader Mukund Dange, 43, general manager-purchase in Chennai Tamil Nadu tells us how he is making the most of the lockdown.
I work for Brakes India-Chennai, a reputed critical automotive component manufacturing company of TVS group as a general manager in purchase function.
For the past 19 years, my work has been a part of manufacturing and operations hence I never had an opportunity to work from home for such a long time.
This lockdown has forced our team to work from home and pleasant surprises emerged out.
It has strengthened our ability to adopt to video conferences, MS Team etc which we were not quite used to.
It has also changed the way we think.
This lockdown has made us realise that if we are assisted by the right tech tools, jobs may be executed efficiently even if you are out of office.
The best part is this transformation has happened overnight.
There are no one-on-one interactions with peers, but our jobs haven't suffered drastically.
We still receive regular reviews through conference calls. Budgets for all sites are presented and concluded. Even team's performance was evaluated online.
This change of working pattern also gave us time to spend with our families, enjoy light moments, do exercise regularly and engage in personal development as well.
I have added financial modeling, financial statement analysis, economics, various HBR papers, SCM books, SCM personal blog etc in to my profile.
This lockdown also helped me considerably increase my LinkedIn viewership for posts and articles.
In short, this has been a very productive lockdown.
