Athira Nair tells you how to run a successful SEO business.

If you are a self-motivated person looking to start an SEO (search engine optimisation) business, you need to have some set of analytical skills to become successful in the business and should find ways to improve these skills.

Entrepreneurship is an unending battle and you should never let your spirits go down.

This is why entrepreneurship is not considered everyone’s cup of tea.

In my opinion, to be a successful entrepreneur, you need to be a successful professional. This applies to any business, not just SEO.

You need to understand that numerous factors contribute to the success of an SEO campaign. However, at the core of every SEO campaign, there is a person who calls the shots.

When you start your own digital marketing business, you should be capable enough to set goals and targets, perform necessary research, lead the members of your team, and accomplish many other tasks.

We started Organize Technologies back in 2016 with a team of six members and I was one among them.

Now we have expanded much and I would like to share a few things that I learned from my experiences with the world of SEO.

As said earlier, there are many responsibilities for an SEO professional.

However, without the general skills to support these responsibilities, you won’t be able to come up with a successful SEO strategy. What are these skills?

Analytical Skills

Analysis is one of the most important skills in the list. To be a good SEO professional, you should be capable of collecting data on “who,” “what,” “when,” and “where.” In addition, you need to understand the “why” and “how” questions connecting them.

For instance, you will need to examine different reports on the increase in organic traffic of your clients to find the tactics that helped you achieve the same. You will also need to consider the drops in rankings and investigate the cause.

Analysis of keywords is another important area that you need to know, as it will help you find the best direction for your SEO campaigns.

Research Skills

Research is another important skill that you need to have to be successful in the field of SEO, as you will be doing a lot of it.

Usually, an SEO campaign starts with the analysis of keywords and competitors.

This will offer you insights on the foundation of your SEO campaign.

However, the business of SEO needs much more research than that. You need to keep yourself updated on the latest happenings in the realm of search engine optimisation and technology.

After researching and collecting the required data, you will need to run experiments to find how your tactics affect user perception and rankings in search engines.

This will help you understand the challenges that you might run into while starting the campaign and will give you a chance to prepare to face the challenges.

The more efficient your research, the better it will be for the campaign.

Basic Coding Knowledge

To have a successful SEO business, you don’t have to be a programmer.

However, to make changes to the web pages (on- page SEO changes) to serve SEO purposes, you will need to have a basic understanding of coding.

Being familiar with the basics of coding can help you inspect the source code of a website to find features that can help your SEO campaign.

It will also help you make quick changes to the website without causing any damage to the website or web pages.

Communication Skills

Communication is much essential in the field of SEO. You need to be a proactive communicator with the members of your team, as it will help you ensure that your directions are followed properly.

Communication skill is also essential to explain the complex concept and jargons of SEO to your clients, who might not have much knowledge of the subject.

It will also help you ensure that your team offers valuable content that your users can relate to. Without good communication skills, you will find it really hard to remain competitive.

Don’t worry if you do not have these skills, or there are skills that you need to improve, as there is always time to change to make yourself fit for the career you choose.

Always keep in mind that the more you invest in yourself, more you will be able to do to grab your dream business and career.
