Aishwarya on the red carpet: Like her look?

February 04, 2009 18:45 IST

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan stepped out in style yesterday at the US premiere of her latest Hollywood release, The Pink Panther 2 in a black chiffon gown.

Although official word on who designed it is still awaited, rumour has it that the ex-beauty queen is wearing Alberta Ferretti and the look certainly suits her, doesn't it?

The draped silhouette, plunging neckline and mega sleeves do justice to Ash and her accessories are spot-on -- she's given a miss to earrings entirely and opted for a classic diamond necklace, which is accentuated by her pulled-back hairdo and perfect makeup.

Says Indian designer Gayatri Khanna, "I think she looks understated and elegant, but she could have selected a slightly more interesting dress! If she wanted a more mature and simple look, I guess, this outfit is fine."

Gayatri's conclusion? "Her overall appearance was not as glamorous as it could have been. Next time, she should ask us to style her for such an occasion!" she laughs.

Nil of designer duo Dev r Nil doesn't quite agree with Gayatri. "Aishwarya's got it perfectly right for the first time!" he exclaims. "At times you need to learn how to underplay, you know. Her skin is glowing, the slightly mohawk-ish hairdo works for her, she's got the makeup down pat and the accessorising is also great."

He continues, "Although I'm not sure who designed the dress, it's just stunning -- it's flattering and definitely not run-of-the-mill. She's showing off just the right amount of shoulder and bosom and the draping and detailing add a classy touch -- it's plain to see that she's sure to give other international stars a run for their money on the red carpet!"
