Why this home theatre system scores

We asked our readers if they would you like to review the latest gadgets that keep flooding the market. In response, GA reader, Baudhayan Lahiri, who bought a home theatre system from LG, rated its performance for us. Here's what he has to say:

I love gadgets and one have just word to describe the new LG-K9250A Home Cinema System I've just purchased -- amazing.

So what's so amazing about it ?

I'll tell you.

Though it has the same features as other similar systems available in the market, the LG-K9250A scores because of its USB support. This allows you to transfer your favourite music and photo albums to your pen drive or MP3 player simply by plugging them into the system.

You can also view your photo albums directly on your television; believe me, even low resolution images look excellent. Unfortunately, it currently supports only MP3 and JPG formats.

The remote is very user friendly and, if you are a bit tech savvy, you will get the hang of it pretty soon.

When it comes to CD-RW (rewritable) discs, be sure to check 'finalise CD' in your CD burning software before using it on this system as it does not recognise Multisession CD-RW discs.

The system has a good subtitle and surround sound effect. It also has an AUX port for connecting your television or any other player for amplification.

In case you have another high quality amplifier with optical inputs, you can connect the optical ouput port of this system to the amplifier.

However, be careful while installing the speakers as they are really very heavy -- about nine kilos. Also, install the speakers at a minimum distance of 30 cms from any nearby AV system to minimise the electromagnetic interference (EMI) -- the problem that we all face with regard to noise in signal systems.

Though the maximum retail price of the product is Rs 28,000, you can get it at competitive price of Rs 16,000 from Hypercity Mall, Mumbai. Samsung too has a model at the same price.
