What: The ministry of science & technology invites applications for Swarnajayanti Fellowships 2005-06 from Indians in India or abroad.

Fellowship details

~ The duration is five years.

Am I eligible? 

~ You could have a Master's degree in engineering or technology.

~ You could also have an MD (medicine).

Or

~ You must be between 30 and 40 years old as on December 31, 2005.

 ~ You have to be a PhD in science or engineering.

~ Mention the following details in your application:

• Full name
• Broad subject area (Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Engineering Sciences)
• Area of specialisation
• Mailing address (indicate telephone, fax and e-mail)
• Date of birth

~ You must also mention your educational qualification (starting from Bachelor's degree) in the following order:

• Serial number
• Degree 
• University 
• Year 
• Subjects 
• Percentage
• Details of professional training and research experience, specifying period
• List of significant publications during the last five years
• Details of employment
• Professional recognition, awards, fellowships received
• Details of the proposed project to be undertaken during the fellowship period
• Specify work at present engaged in, future plan, prospects after the fellowship, how are these related to strengthening basic research in the country
• Detailed financial requirements for five years and phasing for each year
• Name of the institution where project is to be implemented
• Nomination/ recommendation from fellows of national academies, directors of national laboratories, heads of GOI's S&T departments or vice chancellors. It must indicate your competence for the Fellowship and should be sent directly to DST in confidence. Your nomination must clearly indicate your name, subject area and specialiation.

Selection method

A committee will make the final selection based on expert committees' recommendation

Note: Scientists selected for the award should have accomplished innovative original research in frontier areas of science and technology.

~ Covering requirements for research

~ Fellowship of

• Rs 25,000 per month for five years for those scientists who do not draw salary from any other source
  
• Rs 10,000 per month for those who draw salary from another source

~ Contingencies

~ Administrative support

~ Travel (national and international)

~ Special requirements 

Note: Scientists selected for the award will be allowed to pursue unfettered research with a freedom and flexibility in  expenditure as approved in the research plan.
