We continue our reader-driven series on great restaurants and eating places across the country.

Neeraj Jain recommends Jain Shikanji, a cool place to chill out in the sweltering heat.

Cruising down the Delhi-Meerut highway looking for a place to chill out?

Just park in front of Jain Shikanji popularly known as Shikanji, a small joint located around five kilometres from Modi Nagar on the main highway.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with shikanji, it is a health-friendly lemon drink.

Jain Shikanji offers a variety of sweet and sour shinkanji. The price ranges from Rs 12 to 25. Just one sip of shikanji will give you relief from sweltering heat. After drinking a full glass, you will forget about your favourite soft drink.

The joint has six tables with limited parking facilities.

Jain Shikanji has been in the business for many decades. They have a unique formula for preparing shikanji, which they do not like to disclose. You can also buy shikanji masala and prepare it at home. However, you may not get the same taste.

And what's a drink without something to eat?

Besides shikanji, you can order pakodas, jalebi, and patile wale chole for as little as Rs 6. These taste great with a little chutney.

Getting here is easy. It is only 45 km away from Delhi and the drive won't take you more than 90 minutes.
