Readers around the world were drawn into Enid Blyton's Famous Five, a series of young adventure stories as much about picnics with the aforementioned British snack and 'lashings of ginger beer' as conveniently overheard conversations between the bad guys.
The Famous Five series ended in 1963, but now, according a report in The Times, the Five are going to be updated for a television series.
The new drama, authorised by the late author's estate, will feature the four teenagers (and Timmy the dog) all grown up and having gone their separate ways, until a new mystery forces the erstwhile investigators to reunite.
The Times report says Julian, Dick, Anne and Georgina (George) will be in their 40s and 50s, and heartbreakingly enough, Timmy will have died. The loyal canine will be replaced by one of his descendants.
Will the Five still capture our imaginations? Will tomboyish George have tamed down now? Is Dick still playing the fool? Lets wait and see.
