The film will launch his son Karan Sharma and British actress Annabelle Wallis, who plays his love interest.
The film is about two lovers who hail from different backgrounds: the boy is an Indian settled in Mauritius, and the girl is of British origin.
The film was shot in Stockholm, Sweden in its first schedule.
"It is a love story with a cultural conflict. It is a very story-oriented film," said the director.
The film is set to release on Valentine's Day, 2005.
As to why his film is based in Mauritius, Sharma explained, "There are lots of Indians who have migrated from here. We have a small India in Mauritius. I thought this kind of story subject would be interesting, and very novel."
Praising Amitabh Bachchan, Sharma said, "This film is happening only because of Amitji. This film features only newcomers, and if he had not agreed the project would have not taken off."
Asked if he hoped to replicate Hum's success at the box office, Sharma was realistic: "No one can predict the box office. We will do our best to create the magic of Hum and we are hoping only for the best."
