Janata Dal-United President Sharad Yadav was admitted on Tuesady to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital after being flown in from Patna, following complaints of breathlessness and chest pain.

"His condition is stable. He was admitted with complaints of breathlessness and chest pain," D K Sharma, medical superintendent of AIIMS, said adding medicine specialist Sanjeev Singha was attending on him.

The 59-year-old JD-U Rajya Sabha MP was brought to the hospital at 1800 hrs and taken to the ICU, Sharma said. Yadav, party nominee from Madhepura Lok Sabha seat, had gone to the constituency on Monday night but flew back to the state capital by a chopper on Tuesday morning

Doctors from the Patna Medical College and Hospital, including prominent cardiac specialist and director of Indira Gandhi Institute of Cardiology S N Mishra had earlier examined him at a hotel, where Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visited him.

Yadav, elected to the Lok Sabha from Madhepura thrice, was defeated in 2004 by Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. After Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, he is the leading campaigner of JD-U in the state.
