The Andhra Pradesh police, free from any political interference thanks to the model code of conduct, has made history by seizing more than Rs 5 crore in less than a week-long drive to check the flow of money and liquor during the elections in the state.

In the latest such operation on Wednesday, the police seized Rs 1.12 crore and 21 kg of silver from different places in Andhra Pradesh. In a single operation in Nalgonda,  Rs 41 lakh and 21 kg of silver was seized from a person who was not able to give any satisfactory explanation from where the money had come and the purpose for which he was taking it.

On Wednesday police seized cash of Rs 2.90 lakh in Shadnagar from the supporters of PRP candidate Bhushes of Wanaparthy constituency and arrested three persons during the Nakabandi and search operations.

The search and seizure operations across the state has caught the attention of every body as the police have not spared even Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's son-in-law and evangelist Brother Anil Kumar. In a dramatic swoop on Ratna lodge in Karimnagar district police recovered Rs 10.40 lakh from a room where Anil Kumar along with three other pastors was present.

The police carried out the raid after the BJP staged a protest alleging that the money was brought for distribution among the voters but Anil Kumar denied it. Later the situation took a dramatic turn when the Karimnagar circle inspector Ganpath Jadhav returned the money to pastors after he was told that money was meant for religious meeting.

However, state police chief A K Mohanty sought an explanation from district police officials and ordered a thorough probe in to the matter. Chief Electoral Officer I V Subba Rao also said that strict action will be taken against Anil Kumar if he was not able to give a convincing explanation.

But a defiant Anil Kumar said that he had nothing to do with the money which was collected locally for a religious meeting.  He also declared that he would continue to hold religious meetings and the election code of conduct can not stop him from doing so.

"I am being victimized just because I am a relative of the Chief Minister", he said/

He also declared that he will support the secular Congress government and mobilize the support of Christians.
