Chidambaram promises monthly performance report

Home Minister P Chidambaram, on Monday, vowed to release monthly performance reports of the tasks his ministry undertakes even while announcing yet another 100-day plan to be implemented from June 1.

Chidambaram also announced that the Congress manifesto and a document on the Congress pledge to protect India from terror, that he released on April 7, will serve as the guiding light for his ministry. The manifesto had promised to draw up two more plans, one for the remainder of 2009 and another for the whole term of the new government.

Addressing a press conference after taking over the as home minister, Chidambaram said the officials told him that the first 100-day plan announced by him to be completed by May 31, has been substantially implemented.

Chidambaram read out the resolve to fight terrorism from the manifesto and committed his ministry to take all necessary steps to fight terrorism relentlessly, intelligently, wisely, without fear or favour. He also vowed to provide maximum possible security to people, fight communal forces and undertake reforms in the police.
