The Election Commission on Thursday issued the notification for the fifth and final phase of assembly elections in West Bengal, slated for May eight.
Of the 49 going to polls in the fifth phase, nine constituencies are in Cooch Behar, 12 constituencies in Jalpaiguri, 11 in Malda districts, seven in North Dinajpur and five each in Darjeeling and South Dinajpur respectively, Chief Electoral Officer Debasish Sen said.
EC confident of free & fair polls
With the notification, nomination for the final phase of election began during the day and would continue till April 20, he said. Scrutiny of nominations for the fifth phase poll would be held on April 21. The last date for withdrawal is April 24.
Sen said the EC was constantly monitoring the compliance by political parties of the model Code of conduct for the election, which came into force on March one.
