President A P J Abdul Kalam gave his assent to the imposition of President's rule in Bihar on Monday.

The Union Cabinet, which met on Monday evening, had recommended imposing President's Rule following the failure of all political parties to form a government in the state.

After the Cabinet meeting, which was chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil said the newly constituted assembly has been placed under suspended animation.

"The Union Cabinet decided to recommend to the President to impose President's rule and keep the Bihar assembly under suspended animation," Patil said.

As
to when the advisors to Governor Buta Singh would be appointed, Patil said this matter would be taken up on Tuesday.

Various names were being mentioned for appointment.

Name of former Punjab director general of police K P S Gill was being mentioned as a security advisor.

When contacted on phone, former super-cop Gill, who is currently in Mathura, said he had no idea about the matter.

"I have heard about this from friends in the media but so far no one has got in touch with me on this count. Let us wait for a couple of days and we would get to know the truth," Gill told rediff.com.

According to sources close to Bihar Raj Bhavan, Governor Buta Singh has favoured appointment of Gill so that he could revamp the police and security systems in Bihar and help the state police in improving the law and order in the state.
