The Communist Party of India-Marxist on Thursday questioned the 'hasty manner' in which Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibtey Razi invited the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha to form government in the state.

The party, however, did not accept the Bharatiya Janata Party-led alliance's claim that it has a clear majority in the state.

Column: Stop this nonsense about our great democracy

"The way the governor has ascertained the support for the two political groups -- the BJP-led alliance and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led combine is controversial," CPI-M's polit bureau said in a statement.

The party said the formation of the government should be decided on the floor of the assembly. "The governor or the Raj Bhavan cannot be the deciding factor."

It added that even though "the BJP is protesting the governor's move, they forget that they were responsible for using a governor in a partisan manner during the installation of an unrepresentative government in Bihar in 2000."

Interview: Governor has to be very, very objective

The NDA had paraded 41 MLA before the governor. The governor, however, invited the JMM, which had only submitted a list of 36 MLAs.
