Lok Janshakti Party president Ramvilas Paswan on Thursday met Bihar Governor Buta Singh and requested him not to invite the Rashtriya Janata Dal or the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance to form government in the state.

Paswan said he will not support either of them.

Column: Stop this nonsense about our great democracy

The LJP with its 29 MLAs is in a position to install any of the two combinations -- the RJD-led group or the NDA -- in power.

Paswan, however, has gone on record saying he would prefer President's rule to BJP or RJD in Bihar.

Accompanied by almost all of his 29 MLAs, Paswan, emerging from the meeting, said the LJP has secured the support of some MLAs from the Communist Party of India-Marxist-Leninist, the Communist Party of India and the Samajwadi Party.

"Our block has the support of 43 MLAs. As the 92 MLAs of the NDA (55 of JDU and 37 of BJP) also won on an
anti-Lalu plank, 135 MLAs in the 243-member assembly are against the formation of a RJD-led ministry," he said.

Paswan dismissed Lalu's claim that he has the requisite numbers to form government. "Even if we don't include the 17 Independents, a majority of whom are against Lalu, the RJD-led alliance will fall short of the magic figure of 122. In the given situation, inviting RJD to form the government would be unconstitutional," he said.

Paswan said the governor assured him that any decision taken by him would be without bias.

Stating that President's Rule was the last option, the LJP leader said he is making efforts for installation of a non-RJD and non-BJP government in Bihar.
