Rashtriya Janata Dal rebel Anil Kumar Chowrasia, contesting as an independent candidate from Daltonganj in Jharkhand, was on Saturday arrested in an illegal arms possession case filed in 1991.
He was campaigning in Palam district when he was arrested.
Police have stepped up arrests after the Election Commission on Wednesday expressed disappointment over the lukewarm rate of execution of around 12,000 non-bailable warrants ahead of the assembly polls beginning on February 3.
