Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda was on Monday re-elected Bharatiya Janata Party's legislature party leader, senior party leader M Venkaiah Naidu said.

Senior member of the Legislative Assembly and former Union minister Karia Munda and state unit president and MLA Raghubar Das proposed Munda's name, he said.

Later, Munda informed Governor Syed Sibtey Razi about his re-election as leader of BJP's legislature party. As the leader of the largest pre-poll alliance, he also staked claim to form a government.

When no party or pre-poll alliance gets absolute majority, it is the convention that the leader of the largest pre-poll alliance is called to form the government, Munda noted in a despatch to the governor, which was released to the media.

Munda pointed out that the National Democratic Alliance, consisting of the BJP and the Janata Dal (United), had a total of 36 seats. "I have been assured support by a number of independents for my claim to form the government. I will be submitting the list of supporters. I am confident that I will prove my majority as and when required," he told the governor.
