Bharatiya Janata Party leader Shatrughan Sinha on Wednesday said the issue of leadership in Bihar was closed after the party nominated Janata Dal-United leader Nitish Kumar as the National Democratic Alliance's chief ministerial candidate.

"The issue is settled after BJP chief L K Advani made the announcement. I accept this decision," Sinha said after voting in Kadamkuan in Patna.

He said when he had suggested that the NDA should announce its candidate for CM, people had misundertsood that he was trying to promote himself.

"I didn't expect to be nominated for the leadership. I just wanted to emphasise the need to give the voters an option other than Rabri Devi," added Sinha.

"Initially my suggestion was not given much credence, but after the first phase of polling, senior party leaders understood its importance," he said.

Sinha described as 'mischievious' reports that said that he planned to join the Congress because he was praising its leader, Sonia Gandhi. "I have good personal relations with Soniaji, veteran Communist Party of India- Marxist leader Jyoti Basu, Bahujan Samajwadi Party president Mayawati and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad. But that does not mean I agree with the policies of their parties. I am fully and firmly with the BJP."
