With 71 seats, two more than the Congress, the NCP emerged as the single largest party in the assembly election.

"We are ready to show our figure. Our position is good," Pawar said after the meeting at Gandhi's 10, Janpath residence in New Delhi.

Interview: 'They can't get me killed now. I am an MLA'

Pawar said that he discussed the 1999 formula with the Congress president.

In 1999, the CM was chosen from the Congress because it had won more seats than the NCP.

Asked about the Congress' claim that the three seats won by the Communist Party of India-Marxist, to which it had allotted five under the seat-sharing plan, should be added to its kitty, Pawar said that "we are prepared to discuss any methodology" and make a list of legislators supporting both the Congress and the NCP.
