"Though five more results are yet to come, the Congress has already secured a majority and Gegong Apang is likely to be the chief minister," a senior party official said.
The CLP will meet in Itanagar to elect
its leader.
Apang has won from Tuting-Yingkiong constituency, defeating his Bharatiya Janata Party rival Ojing Komboh by 4632
votes.
Buoyed by the Arunachal results, the Congress said it is part of a "continuing" string of victories under the leaderdship of Sonia Gandhi.
The results have underscored the fact that Congress is the only all-India party with a significant presence in every
part of the country, a Congress spokesman said.
