Attired in spotless white kurta-pyjama, he presented a rose to Sonia much to the delight of a battery of photographers in the Central Hall of Parliament.

Rahul, who won from the Amethi parliamentary constituency with an impressive margin of over 200,000 votes, stole the limelight as members made a beeline to greet him.

Warms hugs, hand shakes, anga vastrams and bouquets came his way as he slowly moved towards the front benches where he sat next to Jagdish Tytler, who won from Sadar in the capital.

Rahul, 34, stood up every time an MP walked up to him.

Shouts from photographers to pose for them drew little response from Rahul.

He looked surprised when an MP from Gujarat after congratulating him suddenly shouted 'Sonia Gandhi zindabad.'

Following persistent requests from the photographers, T Subbirami Reddy, an MP from Andhra Pradesh, made an effort to persuade Rahul for a photo-op, but he declined politely.

Newly-elected MP from Mahasamund and former Chattisgarh chief minister, Ajit Jogi, who was seriously injured in a road accident, was brought to Parliament in a wheel chair.

Rahul spent a considerable time chatting with young MPs like Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sachin Pilot, Milind Deora and Ajay
Maken.
