Shripad Naik wins Panaji

Shripad Naik of Bharatiya Janata Party created history by winning the Panaji Lok Sabha seat twice in a row, defeating his nearest rival Wilfred D'souza of Nationalist Congress Party, by a margin of 56,213 votes.

Naik, who garnered 1,44,842 against 88,629 of D'souza becomes the first person to represent the constituency twice in the Lok Sabha.

In Mormugoa constituency, Churchill Alemao of Congress defeated sitting MP Ramakant Angle of BJP by over 50,000 votes.

Christopher Fonseca of Communist Party of India, who bagged 7,977 votes was at third position in Panaji, while Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and Shiv Sena managed to get only 5,377 and 4,027 votes respectively. Independent candidates accounted for just under 4,000 votes.
