Incarcerated member of the dissolved Lok Sabha from Bihar Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav was on Monday night asked by the Madhepura district administration to leave the area immediately ahead of the elections on May 5, District Magistrate Chaitanya Prasad said.

Pappu Yadav was brought to Madhepura for production before a fast track court headed by Additional Sessions Judge Kamla Prasad in connection with an election-related case against him lodged by the police in 1992.

The fast track judge sent him to Sadar Hospital in Madhepura under judicial custody as his lawyer prayed before the court that his client was unwell.

As news spread, leaders opposed to Pappu Yadav raised a hue and cry over his presence in Madhepura on the eve of the May 5 election in the constituency forcing the District Magistrate to constitute a medical board headed by a civil surgeon to examine him.

After receiving its report, a copy of which was also sent to the judge, the DM asked the sitting MP from Purnea to leave Madhepura forthwith.

Yadav, who was to be taken to Patna under heavy police escort, is seeking re-election from Purnea for a fourth term on the ticket of the Lok Janshakti Party of former Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan. At present, he is in judicial custody in the high security Beur Jail in Patna in connection with the murder of CPI-M MLA Ajit Sarkar in Purnea in 1998.
