The results of the opinion polls by two television news channels, revealed on Monday, indicate that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance is likely to consolidate its position in the penultimate phase of polling on May 5.

According to an opinion poll conducted by NDTV 24X7, the NDA will bag 55 of the 83 seats which are up for grabs in the 3rd phase of polling but will still fall shot of majority in the overall tally.

It shows the NDA gaining 14 seats in its tally of 55 while predicting that the Congress would get 12, suffering a loss of eight and other parties will lose 6 seats to finish with 16.

Based on this, the channel projects the NDA's final tally between 245 and 265 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha, Congress 180-200 seats and Others 95-115 seats.

The TV channel, however, did not give the sample figure on which the opinion poll was conducted but made it clear that these figures could change when the actual counting takes place.

The opinion poll conducted by Star News in association with The Telegraph, Dainik Bhaskar and C-Voter said that the NDA might even secure a 'slender majority' by getting 267 to 279 seats in the Lok Sabha.

The poll gave Congress and Allies 169-181 seats and Others 88-100 seats, according to a release issued by Star News.

The poll, conducted for the 83 parliamentary seats going to polls in the third phase, gave the BJP-led NDA 48-56 seats and Congress and Allies 12-20 besides 11-19 seats for Others. The survey, involving over 6,000 respondents, covered 65 seats in four states and was conducted between April 28 and May 2.

The poll predicted a major gain for the BJP in Uttar Pradesh where it is likely to get 13 of the 30 seats going to polls on May 5 while the Congress and BSP are likely to get four each and the SP tally is pegged at nine.

In Bihar, where polling will be held for the remaining 12 of the 40 seats, the NDA is likely to get eight and the Rashtriya Janata Dal-led Congress alliance three and others one.

The BJP seemed poised to win 18 of the 25 seats in Rajasthan, the rest going to Congress, the release said.

Madhya Pradesh also looked to be going the BJP way with the poll projecting the party bagging 10 of the 12 seats going to polls on May 5. The Congress could win the remaining two seats.
