Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani on Friday announced that the National Democratic Alliance government had completed six years in power.

Addressing a press conference at a guest house of Raymonds in Yavatmal before beginning the 10th day of his Bharat Uday Yatra, the senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader expressed satisfaction with the achievements of the government and the path it has set India on.

India had entered the 21st Century with the burden of expectations after decades of despair and wasted opportunities. The NDA, he said, had infused fresh life and soul into the people, tapped the country's unrealised potential and got rid of the prevalent negative mindset.

India, he said, has never been so serene, developed, confident, respected and at peace with itself since Independence.

He enumerated some highlights:
1. Strengthening democracy, federalism
2. Made Centre and States partners in development
3. Successfully ensured security of India
4. Changed focus of governance from regulation/control to facilitation
5. Taken India out of crippling regime of shortages
6. Inflation at modest levels
7. Nurtured India's competitiveness in world economy
8. 'Made in India' is something to be proud of
9. Facilitated India's emergence as a knowledge centre of the world
10. Integrated India physically with largest road-building programme
11. Initiated a project to end water scarcity permanently, which will change the face of agriculture
12. Linked overseas Indians to development of the motherland
