After Bharatiya Janata Party it is now the turn of Shiv Sena to woo the television stars ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

Amar Upadhyaya, whose character in a popular television sitcom made him a household name, on Saturday joined the Sena at a function held in Andheri, a northwestern suburb of Mumbai.

Upadhyaya was formally admitted to the Sena fold by party's executive president Uddhav Thackeray.

Speaking on the occasion, Uddhav lashed out at Congress for creating political instability in the country. Making a strong plea for simultaneous elections in Maharashtra, he criticised the Democratic Front government for doing little for the development of the state.

The Sena leader exhorted his partymen to increase the tally of the saffron combine in the coming Lok Sabha and assembly elections.

Uddhav also hinted that Sena's Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Nirupam might be fielded from Mumbai northwest parliamentary constituency, presently represented by Congress' Sunil Dutt.

Speaker of the dissolved Lok Sabha Manohar Joshi, Nirupam and other Sena leaders were present on the occasion.
