The Election Commission has decided not to allow election related advertisements on television channels, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said in New Delhi on Friday.

It is not clear yet if only government advertisements that are preceived to be politically inclined will be barred from television channels or if the ban would apply to all kind of political advertisements.

An EC spokeman said a clarification would be issued in an hour's time.
