A day after announcing his decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party, former Union minister Arif Mohammad Khan on Monday had an hour-long meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi.
On Sunday Khan had surprised everyone by saying:
"In order to remove all doubts and misunderstandings between the Sangh Pariwar and the minorities, I will join the BJP soon."
And that is not all. Khan, a minister in the Rajiv Gandhi government, had also accused the Congress of "sowing the seeds of communalism in the country."
Khan, who in 1989 joined the 'Jana Morcha' of former prime minister V P Singh, had later joined the Bahujan Samaj Party. He quit the BSP after Mayawati campaigned for the BJP in the Gujarat assembly election.
