Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti developed chest pain in a helicopter carrying her to a poll rally in Maharashtra on Thursday evening and was admitted to a hospital in Nashik where doctors said her condition is 'normal'.

"Bharti's blood pressure is normal and there is no heart trouble but she is having spondylitis problem and the jerks in the chopper might have aggravated it because of which Bharti felt uneasy. She does not have any heart problem, " Dr Narayan Devgaokar and Dr D S Aher of Raje Bahadur Hospital told reporters after her check-up.

"The chief minister will be kept under observation on Thursday night and a decision (on whether) to discharge her would be taken after examining her on Friday morning," they said.

The 45-year-old chief minister addressed poll rallies at Aurangabad and took off to attend a poll rally of Union Minister Ram Naik at Dahisar, near Mumbai, when she felt pain in the chest and asked the chopper pilot to make an emergency landing, police sources said.

After the chopper landed near Akole village in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra, BJP workers alerted local doctors but the chief minister reportedly expressed a desire to undergo an examination in Nashik, party sources said. She then travelled to Nashik, about 140km from Akole, by road.

The sudden change in Bharti's plans rang alarm bells in Bhayander where she was scheduled to land. Later, authorities traced her chopper and established contact with the pilot and party workers accompanying her, police sources said.
